Administrative Professionals Week is April 22-26 this year, a great event aimed at celebrating and recognizing the work of all the administrative professionals that keep the wheels of business moving. There are over 22 million administrative and office support professionals working in the United States alone, and they work in nearly every industry, making it a major opportunity for employee appreciation.

What began as National Secretaries Week in 1952 has grown into an annual tradition of recognizing the work of one of the largest employee groups in the nation. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Administrative Support Services” encompasses all manner of occupations such as executive and administrative assistants, facilities janitors and cleaners, freight movers, landscapers and groundskeepers, office clerks, and security guards.

Here are a few quick ideas to show your appreciation:

  • Gift bags – Put together a swag bag of goodies themed to your office and workplace culture.
  • Thank you notes – Handwritten thank you notes are always a great way to share personal appreciation.
  • Food and drink – Show your gratitude by buying coffee or providing a meal at work.
  • Special recognition – Use your company’s recognition system to create a special award for the week.

Administrative Professionals Day is Wednesday, April 24th, so don’t forget to also check out the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) website, where you can find a listing of seminars and events related to APW that you can share far and wide.
